Question about attaching scope rings?

See the two little flathead screws on the top rings. How tight are these supposed to be tightened? I've got them pretty tight but there's a small gap, which looks lame. It's a 1" tube scope with these Weaver 1" rings so shouldn't it tighten to flush? But I don't want to ruin the scope by tightening too tight.
There will be a gap. You would think it would be flush but it won't be. If there was no gap when fully tightened then it wouldn't be able to hold the scope as securely, especially if it's a cheaper scope with loose tolerances. You don't have to get them all that tight though. Just a good solid hand tight will be plenty. You don't want to keep forcing it because you may damage your scope. If you plan on leaving the scope on there for awhile you can put a drop of locktite on the screws and then put them in and get them snug and they'll stay put.
