What is an unertl rifle scope?

I came across this name while looking at target .22 lr rifles on cabelas and i have never heard of it. what is it because it doesn't look like any other scope i have ever seen before.



Unertl made top-quality scopes, mostly for target and benchrest shooters. The company is out of business, but I don't know when that happened.

The scope you saw looks different probably because it uses external adjustment. That means the windage and elevation are altered by knobs on the (usually) rear ring that are outside the scope tube. The tube rides inside the rings and usually has spring as a sort of shock absorber that allows that tube to slide forward for a short distance, then pushes it back into position . While very precise, external adjustments are fragile and not well-suited to field use.

Unertls are pretty much in the collector category. If you want to shoot, I'd go with modern glass.
