Spotting Scope Laser
Ruger mini-14 sighting problems? help?

i am very experienced when it comes to sighting in scopes, this is the first time i ever sighted in a .223, i took it to the range the other day and used a laser bore sighter, i went through 6 boxes of ammo trying to sight the darn thing in, and i only hit the bulls eye once. i would shoot, one would be high, shoot again, the other would be low. and i also noticed on the scope, when you turn the knob in the "up" direction, the cross hairs move down. the same for the right and left, they seem to be flipped, my uncle mounted the scope on the gun like 10 years ago and never fired it. it was kept in extremely good condition, not a scratch or spot of rust on it. what could be the problem? ruger is usually great for accuracy, i have 7 rugers.

As far as the scope goes that is normal for the cross hairs to move down when the turrent is moved "up", on the other hand if you are saying the point of impact is going down when the turrent is moved "up" then that is a totally different situation.

Sounds as though your rings may be loose on one side or both, try using loctite after remounting the scope and let it cure overnight and then try again.

If that doesn't work, maybe try using a different scope that "you" know is to be good.

If all that fails look at the crown of the rifle bore for any nicks on the outside of the barrel as well as the inside also.

I would say more than likely it is a scope and/or mount problem, l never really encountered a mini-14 that didn't shoot well as in atleast grouping within a couple of inches before settleing down some.
