What should I look for when buying a WASR 10/63?
I'm new to AK's, but not new to guns. I have done some research on this rifle, and I have decided to trade/sell my SKS for an AK Variant. I have heard that some people have problems with their WASR's having canted sights or gas block. How do I tell if it has this? Also, is there anything else that I should look for? Thanks, Zak.
Here's rule one. NEVER buy online. It may be cheaper but unless there is a hand select option skip it. When you inspect it look down the length of the gun to see if the front sight or gas port is canted. Meaning it tilts. Hold the gun and have the muzzle on the floor and looks down the rifle, not the sights. A little cant in the gas port wont be to much of an issue but if it is a lot it can bind the piston.
Strip the gun and check the receiver. Make sure that the trunnion is properly fitted and the receiver isn't twisted. Yes sometimes the receiver is actually twisted sometimes. The wood will look terrible, thats a given but you can refinish it. Also it will take a lot of cleaning for it to look decent.
