I am looking for rimfire pistols.?
I am a target shooter that owns and shoots a .22 scoped rifle. I am looking for small arms and have decided on a rimfire pistol, and the main ones out there seem to be:
Ruger Mark III
Browning Buckmark
S&W Model 41
Preferably something with the feel, shape, look of a Ruger, but it's not 100% necessary.
I am also a long distance scope shooter, and not so used to small arms, so a pistol for someone not so used to small arms is best. I've shot small arms on occasion and know just a few things about them, but not much else.
I have heard good and bad things about all three of the above pistols, what are your opinions on them?
Yes, you are used to small arms, because everything you have ever fired in your life can be considered small arms. Even your long distance scoped rifle.
I have an S&W model 41. It's very well made, and a target type of pistol. It has great sights, and a nice trigger. It is not something I am going to drag around the woods. I can't imagine what you have heard that are bad about them, except price.
I have had too many Rugers to count over the years. I have never had any Mark 3 pistols, because I don't like the nuisance stuff Ruger has added in the name of safety. I refer to the magazine disconnect, and the loaded chamber indicator. I DO like the Ruger pre-mark, mark 1, and mark 2 pistols.If you could find one of these used in good condition, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it. I'd look for a bull barrel target, or government target pistol. I like the heavy barrels. I would as a second choice buy the target model with the tapered barrel with adjustable sights. I would pass up the fixed sight version.
I have never owned a Buckmark, but my friend does, and he likes it. For target shooting, I'd look for one with adjustable sights and a heavy barrel, if they offer that option.
