Scope Deer Hunting
If I go hunting deer with an AK-47 should I use scope or open sights?
I know they are inaccurate. I just need an answer.
I don't know why the thumbs down with Citizen Lupold --- he's actually quite right....
I would say open sights.... here's why... The 7.62x39MM cartridge delivers enough energy to drop an average white tail deer to about 100 yards... Its generally accepted that you need at least 1000 foot pounds of force for deer hunting......

Most deer are harvested at ranges under 100 yards so in my opinion it doesn't make sense to use optics at such closer ranges..... NO an AK type rifle is not that inaccurate to successfully take a deer at those closer ranges.... I do suggest that a shooter target shoot at a reactive target with an AK or any rifle for that matter if deer are to be harvested at close range with no scope... Its not hard at all just practice.... Get some steel gongs and practice like this guy does...
Use soft point ammunition like the cartridge on the right in this photo.... Not FMJ that's commonly used in these rifles....

Your AK with the right ammo is fine for deer - use open sights.....
As A side note -- realize it may not be legal to use that rifle for deer in all states and counties.....
