Rifle Scope Nib
is this a good gun trade?
I have a desert eagle 50 ae with 44 magnum conversion, two 50 ae mags, one 44 mag magazine, hogue grips, and hard case. I have been offered a Remington 700 vtr in 223 NIB and a Ruger m77 hawkeye blued/wood in .308 in exelent condition with cheap bushnell scope already on it. both rifles for my desert eagle. do you think this is a good deal? what would you do?
wow the votes unanimous, I am suppose to meet the guy in the morning for the trade. I will let you know how it goes. I really like my desert eagle but I need some good sharp shooting rifle for deer hunting and long range target so they will get more practical use. My desert eagle is a good one that doesn't jam and is well taken care of so really its a good deal for both of us. thanks for all the input so far.
So, I am one of the few on this board that is not an abject hater of the Desert Eagle pistols. I do consider them something of a curiousity, but then lots of guns fall into that category as far as I'm concerned so it is hardly an indictment.
From a strict dollar for dollar comparison, the Remington 700 VTR is probably around $700, the Hawkeye if used + scope is probably about the same, maybe a bit less. - So call that $1,400.
Your Desert Eagle in 50 AE if in good condition has a base value of probably $1000 maybe a bit more. The .44 magnum conversion is another $400 or so - at this point you are probably even. The mags on the DE are pretty expensive though as I remember, $50 plus? So it may be that from a strict dollar for dollar comparison you are giving up more than you are getting. However, it is probably within about 10%. If I were a hard nose I'd probably lobby for some ammo - maybe 100 rounds of .223 and another 100 rounds of .308 to even it up.
It's close enough to where I'd call it fair.
Now, as a related aside - if you are sitting on any .50 AE ammo - definately work those into the trade. If you're going to do it. You may someday have something which runs .44 magnum, but unless you get another DE there isn't another gun in the world that I know of that runs that caliber. Given that .50 AE is pretty expensive you could probably work a 2 for 1 or 3 for 1 sort of deal for .223 at a minimum I would think.
