how to create a ping script website?

my coding skills are not the greatest - but I can learn pretty quickly

I just want to create a site that will ping servers on my network to verify if the server/pc is up or down. If i can have it in a color coded status like a traffic light (Green = UP and Red = Down) would be Great. If I can get it to email me also to notify me of the outage would be a great bonus as well.

I cant afford any type subsciption program for this as it will not fit the scope of the project, as one of the requirements is that it must reside on a local PC/Server here.

make a bash script (or .bat if you are on windoze) to do the pinging. Use cron to run it at intervals (or timeout command in windoze) and output the results to a txt file. Then use php to interpret the output and make a webpage. Or have your script output in html.

To send email in windoze, I'm sure there's some command line program that could handle it.
