How tight do the cross bolts on a weaver style mount/picatinny rail set up on an AR-15 have to be?
I'm assuming that since an AR isn't really a high recoil type weapon that they won't have to be too tight, right? Just curious because it appears that I'm using about half the threads screw heads. Seems like it would be pretty easy to strip them out.
Asking/curious because I don't have torque wrench, just using a screw driver.
I am a mechanical millwright, I do alot of screwing..hehe
Seriously, I would not torque any bolt unless the engineer requires that. I doubt the small screws or bolts you have are designed for this. If you worry about them 'rattling' loose, try some 'thread lock'. There are a couple different strengths, go with the weaker of the 2. The reason for this is (I learned from experience) if you ever want to disassemble it , and you have the 'strong' kind, you will strip the heck out of the bolt (or screw) trying to loosen it.
