Ever rebarreled a Mosin?
I'm in a craving mood of gunsmithing. I was wondering how hard it would be to make a Mosin/Nagant 91/30 into .45-70, and what all work would be involved. Also, would it be safe with normal pressure loads, or would I have to handload with black powder? I know many people don't like it when someone wants to "Bubba" a rifle, but I don't look at it this way. Any help would be grateful!
Also, what about .30-30, or .444 Marlin?
And this is only an idea (probably have to be a single shot, because of the magazine).
It doesn't need to be rebarreled at all. I was curious if it was possible, that's all.
You could probably do it, I think the lock work would be strong enough for any of those cartridges (well maybe not the Marlin-don't have my books at the PC) but think you'd be in for a lot of work. And the .45-70 and .444 marlin are longer than the 7.62x54 R (again off the top of my old gray head) so might not have enough bolt throw.
