The micro-pave diamonds have become extremely popular amongst consumers that are looking for engagement rings, wedding rings and anniversary rings. The delicate and shiny appearance that they create is something never seen before in the jewelry industry.

While this style is very seductive, is necessary that you know what you are getting into when you buy these wedding rings.

What is pave?

You must understand how pave wedding rings are created, before you know what are the potential problems that can arise whit this style of mount. Pave is a French term that references a "cover", and in terms of jewelry, it means that the surface of the ring is completely covered with diamonds.

Now, there has been a change in this definition in the traditional sense of the pave mount. In the past, it was understood that the piece of jewelry was totally covered in diamonds. Nowadays, it can be a single line of pave diamonds, many rows of pave diamonds, or just one.

To make the pave cover with diamonds, the jeweler makes a hole in the metal of the ring to put the diamond. The diamond is positioned at surface level, the point of the stone is buried inside the metal. The jeweler uses then a small device called molding tool that elevates the metal.

Next the jeweler uses a dug tool to make a bright cute that will surround any diamond that has been encrusted. This dug tool is very similar to a small chisel that has been designed with a very sharp tip.

Finally, a very small tip is made in the brilliant cut edge, using an special wheel. This edge is a microscopic line made when the tool is dragged alongside a piece of gold or platinum.

Problems with Micro Pave

These are some of the inconveniences that happened very often with the pave set.

A client buys a ring in a jewelry store and then he/she has the ring adjusted to his/her size. After a short time he/she looses a diamond or maybe two and then the ring is taken back to be repaired. The jeweler replaces the diamond and he/she happily puts the ring back in his finger. Then after a while another diamond falls of its mount. The client now returns angry to the jewelry store demanding an explanation, the jeweler does not really know what to say.

Most jewelers wont know what to say. But the problem is that you had the ring adjusted and it was reduced to a lower size than the jewel design could hold. Usually this problem does not arise when you reduce the ring by one size, when the ring is reduced two full sizes of more, then is probable that this problem will occur.
