long range rifle accuracy?
I am just wondering about some things to buy extra or to look for when purchasing a rifle. I have heard good things about the Remington 700. I am looking at using a 7.62mm round and I am looking at around 800 meters. What are some things to look for? Heavier barrel? Fluted? what are some companies that produce some quality products at a reasonable price? I am looking at spending up to 600 on the rifle alone. More if it is justified. Good fixed scopes? Just anything will help. Accuracy mods? anything! thanks!
"Long Range Rifle," and "up to $600" are largely mutually exclusive items. There are a few exceptions, but I'm hesistant to mention them.
What I want to say is that hitting a 12 inch target at 800 meters isn't as easy as all that, that most people who are seriously into this are either F-T/R or F-open competitors, or professionals (read: Military): That $3000 is an average rifle, without optics, and that 800 meters is pushing the limits on all but a few very uncommon .30 cal/7.62 diameter cartridges.
