Which rifle should I get for the zombie invasion. Which is better? I am in all seriousness. Seriously.?
I know this may sound stupid, but I am gearing up for the imminent zombie invasion. I would like to buy a smaller caliber semi-automatic rifle, and I am having trouble choosing between a Ruger Mini-14 or a Remington 597. Because of the situation, I would also be buying a pretty good scope, possibly with infrared, a laser sight, bipod, extended magazine, flash hiders, suppressor, etc. Which should I get and with what accessories?
Bolt action > Semi-auto anyday.
But if you insist on sticking with the semi-auto; you can't go wrong with a .17 Mach 2, .22 Hornet or .22 WMR.
Don't knock these calibres! They each have very low noise, little recoil, supreme accuracy for short-medium engagements, ammo is lightweight and plentiful. So some research on these calibres; hell you can even get away with a .22 LR to kill someone.
As for companies. The 10/22 Ruger is indestructible, reliable and accurate. Marlin 60, Savage MKII series, CZ-USA series. All are reliable, cheap and affective.
Optics choice. You will want a variable powered, parralax wide objective optic. Look in the range of 3-12x for magnification and an objective diameter of 40mm or 50mm. Bushnell, Tasco, BSA, Leapers all make good quality and affordable optics. I do suggest you invest in high profile scope mounts so you can retain the use of your iron sights. When things get close and personal, magnification is your enemy. The ability to be able to switch over to your iron sights to make accurate shots out to 100 ft is a great feature.
