I can't get my air rifle scope sighted!?
I have a BSA 3-9x40 mm scope mounted to a Gamo Hunter Sport air rifle. I put a laser bore sight in the barrel but for some reason I can not get the crosshairs down to meet the laser dot. The problem is that the laser is always lower than the crosshairs. What might be the problem? The target I am sighting at is approximately 100 or 110 yards away from my position.
Toss the laser bore sighter. You might need one if each round you shot cost $3 or more. Mount the scope. Tighten all of the screws. Shoot the airgun about 5 times at 10 yds . Say it is shooting 1" high and 1 inch left. The scope is probably 1/4 moa. Turn the windage knob 40 clicks right. You may want to shoot 5 more times and double check if you know left from right. Leave it high because it will probably drop at 20 yds. Move the target to 20 yds. Shoot 5 more shots and make the final adjustment on your scope. 5 clicks should move the point of impact 1/4 inch at 20 yards. If you want it sighted at a farther distance, move the target out to that range and then shoot 5 rounds and see what happens.
