Unissued Mosin Nagant 91/30. Worth it?
I own a couple Mosin mil-surps but there barrels are worn, good for plinking and hunting at closer ranges but nothing really really far. I know a couple places that sell (they say) never used, unissued mosins that come in their original packaging, with a couple removed on display on the wall, probably slopped full of unseen unless taken apart cosmolene but I've dealt with that before. They might be slightly used and just making up the unissued part to sell them but there perfect in every way, I looked at them myself, 100% mirror in the barrel without a single scratch. I didn't get one becuase I thought the price was overdone. There going for around $350ish, I don't remember the exact price. Is that a decent price for an unissued, unused 91/30 or are they inflating the price? I've seen prices much higher for sniper versions or finnish versions or finnish snipers. It's just a standard 91/30 not a sniper version and without a scope. And if $350 is to much then what would be a fair price?
I wouldn't buy it.
I am very sure that these are definitely used and probably rebuilt. Many of the 91/30's were refinished to near new condition in the 70's in Ukraine. The way to tell is that a small mark will be in the side of the stock, it looks like a square about .5"x.5" and has a single diagonal line through it; this is the rebuild mark.
Century Arms frequently deals the 91/30's that are rebuilt and in excellent condition. These can usually be bought at various sporting goods stores like Dunham's Sports for around $80.
If I were buying I would maybe pay upto 150 for something extremely nice or up to 200 if extremely nice and lacking an import stamp (name of importer on reciever). For what you are describing, I would walk; there are a lot of better buys out there without much looking.
