Holographic Reticle Reflex Scope
Holographic Reticle Reflex Scope
Military equipment ranges in size from large vehicles to small weapons accessories. Weapon sights are part of the latter, and they're a necessity for infantry and other guns used by soldiers. Also called tactical sights or scopes, these pieces of military equipment are optical devices that assist with a shooter's aim. One allows a shooter to align his weapon, through crosshairs or a laser, with the target. Sights come in laser, reflex, peep, and telescopic forms.
Telescopic sights are used by infantry. These devices give the shooter magnification, and variable magnification is common for sights used by the military. This feature gives the sight additional accuracy by allowing the object seen in the glass to appear closer than it actually does. For example, a sight labeled as "factor 10" will allow the shooter to view the object as if it were 10 times closer to him. Aside from magnification, exit pupil and eye relief are two features for telescopic sights.
Reflex sights are also regularly used by the military and are ideal for use with firearms with heavy recoil. Red dot and holographic weapon sights fall under this type, in which a reticle image is reflected onto a combining glass and superimposed on the target. Reflex sights are non-magnifying and have features to adjust reticle brightness. Versatility in mounting these sights is a significant benefit; rather than relying on one position for the sight, a soldier using this military equipment can place it in several mounting positions on his weapon.
Laser sights are also in use by the military, and many of these are actually reflex sights. A laser sight enhances the target and, as its name suggests, allows the shooter to place a laser spot on the target to align the barrel of his gun. Red dot is the most common type of laser sight, although infrared diodes are ideal for dark conditions. Several laser sights combine red dot and infrared diodes for versatility and flexibility for several environments.
Sights, additionally, are one piece of military equipment designed often with night vision. Various pieces of gear are classified as night vision devices (NVDs), and weapon sights are included. An NVD allows images to be produced in levels of light approaching darkness. This is created by an automatic gated power supply system that regulates the photocathode voltage; the NVD, then, instantly adapts to darker lighting conditions.
