What is a good rifle for my 7 year old son?
i was thinking of a .223 with a scope but only comes in olive green. i was looking for black or wood. i also heard about a 7mm-08 and was wondering what's the better choice. i want to get around $300 or less. with scope if possible.
well, to the people who took the question seriously. thank you. to the rest of the people who didnt, my 7 yr old is probably the size of a 10 yr old. Not to mention he has been around firearms plenty so far. I believe the only morons around are probably the ones who live in the midwest.
Marlin 60 or Ruger 10/22, both are .22lr without much kick to it. Wouldn't hurt your little boy. You can put a decent 4x scope on either for about $50-$60 and you'll have a very good setup. You can get a marlin 60 for about $160 and the Ruger 10/22 for around $270.
Coincidentally, I just bought a new Marlin 60 for myself a week ago at a local gun shop in Texas for $159+tax. It's the very basic model and great for plinking around with, which is why I wanted a rifle. I have a few handguns and revolvers, but this is my first rifle mainly because ammo is getting expensive and I wanted a 22lr to play around with and learn to use a rifle at minimal cost. The Ruger is great as well, I shot both and both are very accurate, reliable (based on 4 months of research), and easy to handle. I went with the Marlin largely because of the price. It is pretty accurate at 25-30 yards (I haven't shot further away) without a scope, right out of the box. I'm looking for a scope as well and hopefully I can get a nice one for cheap and get it sighted in.
