Folding Front Sight Scopes
Venturing in the to AR15 world, HELP!?

Im going to buy one here soon prob. the rock river arms lar-15. However im confused. If i buy one and want to put a red dot sight on it, do i need to remove the front iron sight? is there and option to where i can keep the front iron sight while having a scope mounted? For instance should i get a folding sight as an option?

You are one of the smarter Pre-AR buyers. I build match AR's.

Most AR owners buy the rifle then ask questions. In the end, they get the rifle they want, but, have about $200+ in useless left over parts that got replaced.

What you really want if a scope is in your future - you need an A3 flat top upper receiver with the carry handle. You also want a front sight tower that has a fold down front sight. This way you can quickly go from scope to iron sights. Yes, instead of the carry handle you can installed a rear BUIS (back up iron sight) that sits on the flat top, but, this is only for a total emergency. The BUIS sits too low to be any fun to shoot - you will end up with a strained neck and headaches. Much better to have the carry handle that lowers the rifle a bit more into your shoulder and is much more comfortable to shoot.

Surf on over to Yankee Hill Machine and click on the 'gas block' and 'sights' under products. You will see the options available to you for that front tower. It is allot cheaper in the long to run to order a rifle with these, or, ask a local gun shop to build you an upper with these - than to modify your gun later on.
