Duplex Hunting Scope
Savage Model 12LRPV .308 or Savage Model FPHS .308?
I am looking for a good long range (300+yds) target/hunting rifle in .308, and I am a fan of the Accutrigger made by Savage. The Savage model 12 Long Range Precision Varminter has a great rep, and comes with the new Target-Accutrigger and a 26" stainless barrell. The FPHS comes with a Accutrigger and a 24" blued barrell. I will go deer huntin' with this rifle once a year; but I want an accurate rifle that I do not want to pay hefty $ for a target rifle that I can use at the range a lot. I already have a Leupold 2.5 x 7-33mm VX-1 wide duplex scope to mount. The model 12 is more $, but seems like it will have more accuracy due to barrell length and Target Accutrigger. Anyone have any experience with the Target Accutrigger?

Either gun will work well however. The .308 may not be a wise choice for long range hunting. Most will tell you 300 yards max.The .308 just doesn't have the power at the longer ranges for a good clean 1 shot kill. It has the accuracy but not the power.
