Is it possible to mount a POSP 8x42A Dragunov scope on a m66 yugo sks?
I have recently aquired a Yugo M66 "Cherry's" SKS which I am told is the high end of the SKS market. I want to put a scope on it and I really like the look of a POSP 8x42A Dragunov scope and I know where I can get one cheap. My question is are there any mounts out the for the Yugo M66 that would acomadate that particular scope? and where could I find it specifically... a website link would be helpful or a stores phone number if you have it. I have better rifles, but I just wanted to dress this one up because it is the cheapest to shoot.
Ok, first things first, it's not a M66, it's a M59/66 if it has a grenade launcher, it's a M59 if it doesn't and was made prior to 1965. SKS is the most common terminology for these rifles, regardless of the numeric nomenclature.
The POSP scopes are calibrated for 7.62x54R, they will be mostly useless on a 7.62x39 rifle. The SKS was designed from the very beginning to be an iron sight weapon, there is no provision for attaching a scope, except for those cheap after market dust cover mounts that are never tight and wobble all over. Unless you hire a gunsmith to drill and tap the side of the reciever and have a rail attached there, you will never get a good solid base to mount a scope. If you absolutely must mount a scope on your SKS, consider removing the rear sight and attaching a scout scope mount and using a good quality EER scope.
