Is this a good hunting scope for my rifle?
I own a DPMS LR-308 Panther rifle and it shoots .308 Winchester. A few months ago I was thinking about going deer hunting with an Eotech 512 red dot sight on top of my AR. But after talking to a hunter I realized that it was not a good choice for hunting optics. I went to the Sportsman's Guide online and I purchased this Osprey International riflescope for hunting this year, and I'm wondering if I made a right decision or if I should send it back and ask for a refund?

It has 10 - 40 x 50 mm power and can help you see things at 1,000 yards away.
George, I'm from the old school of optics, the simple rule is: your rifle is only as good as your optics. If you own a $900 rifle and you put a $149 scope on it you have a $149 rifle. I'm sure there are other trains of thought here, and I'm sure there are shooters who use Osprey scopes. I am not one of those. I have Leupold and Ziess scopes that I bought 30 years ago that are still as clear and functional as the day I bought them. I just don't think in 10 or even 5 years you'll have a serviceable scope, from what I see in the detail I'm not impressed. There is a reason that true good quality scopes are priced the way they are, I buy optics to last the life of the rifle, not because it looks cool or is the newest gadget around.
