Dot Rifle Hunting Scopes
Hey everyone i just got my 8 yr old son a youth 243. What is the lightest bullet you would recommend for deer?

This will be his 1st yr hunting with a rifle. Just dont want him to dot his eye with the scope. He has been shooting 22's, and a semi auto 1187 (This has extremely Little kick compared to the 243) for a couple of years. I really dont expect any shots over 100 yards. Is there much of a dif in the kick between a 55gr and a 85-95 gr bullet. Any advise would be great! Thanks!



Personally, I would go with a 70 grain bullet weight.

Some might say this is too light, but I disagree. The absolute worst thing that will happen is that the bullet will fragment when entering the body of the deer. So what? That's the whole idea of using high-speed, light-weight, small caliber bullets for deer hunting.

I knew one man that used to hunt with a 224 Weatherby Magnum using 55 grain bullets. He made neck shots so there was very little meat ruined.
